He scored 7 points from 9 rounds.The
Phillipine grandmasters Oliver Barbosa
and Mark Paragua followed on the next
places with 6,5 points. The favourite,
GM Le Quang Liem (2714) from Vietnam
ended up in fourth place, also with 6,5 points.

Maisausgabe der Blitz Grand Prix.Das Turnier beginnt 19 Uhr. Wie immer
wird gespielt in Cafe Kontakt in der Rotfuchsstrasse.

Altagutta skal på langtur til helgen. Aksel Brasøy, Odd Erling Mikalsen og
Harald Mikalsen som vi her ser under NM for lokallag på Fagernes høsten
2011, skal delta i Boden Elo fra fredag til søndag.Der får de brynt seg på
IM Emil Hermansson, Anders Öhman, Håkan Holmström og Tomas Yttling.
Det skal bli spennende å følge denne turneringen. 1.runde spilles fredag kl.18.

Visma Chess Tournament som arrangeres i Växjø 26.-30.juni. De skumleste
konkurrentene til seieren i GM-gruppen blir trolig den svenske GM Jonny
Hector (2512) og den islandske GM Henrik Danielsen (2500).I denne
gruppen finner vi også de svenske IM-ene Erik Blomqvist, IM Daniel
Semsecen, IM Axel Smith og IM Victor Nithander. Dessuten deltar den
danske IM Mads Andersen og den finske IM Vilka Sipila. Et meget hardt
felt der det nok blir spilt mye kampsjakk.

We would like to congratulate grandmaster
Valery Salov with his 49th birthday today.
Salov was one of the strongest players in
the world at the end of the 1980s and the
start of the 1990s.The polishborn became
European junior champion in 1983-84.
He  shared the 1st place  with GM Alexander
Belyavsky in the 1987 USSR Championship
but lost the playoff 0-2.His best result was
in the FIDE World Chess Championship
1996. He qualified for the Candidates and
won his first two matches against Khalifman
and Timman before he lost in the semis to
Gata Kamsky.The world then surpassed
new queen indian duels with the FIDE world
champion Anatoly Karpov.Salov struggled
with healt problems at the end of his career.
He retired from chess in 2000. He also has
a passion for backgammon. That could be
seen during the World Cup tournament in
Skellefteå in 1989 where swedish tv caught
him on his way to the backgammon room!
