Grandmaster Nikita Maiorov (right) is the rating favourite in Apolda Open
which starts in the German smalltown in Thüringen next Thursday.We
will also keep a close eye on IM Heiko Machelett and Robert Kreyssig.
Machelett left SG Leipzig in Summer and will play 1.Bundesliga for his
new club Erfurter SK in this autumn. He will use this tournament to get
practice before he battle it out with the strong grandmasters in the German
Top League. Young Robert Kreyssig will be eager to improve his elo and
perhaps beat some titleholders. The tournament has 7 rounds and the 1st
round begins Thursday 20th of August at 6.30 (18.30). The last round
starts on Sunday 23.August at 14.30. The winner can take home 800 euros.
