Interesting day in Dortmund

The last days I have visited Dortmund. It was a nice travel from Leipzig.
I was going to watch chess stars like Caruana, Kramnik, Leko, Ponomariov,
Adams, Najditsch, Maier and Baramidze.Yesterday at 3 p.m. (15.00)
I entered the orchester house in Dortmund to follow the 4th round of this
gigantic chess tournament.

The big legend GM Vlastimil Hort made the first move in the game
Najditsch-Kramnik. Noone was surprised that the German number 1 made
the move e2-e4. Kramnik played his pet, Berlin Defence.Najditsch had a
smal edge in the middle game, but the Russian played solid and made
a draw, bringing him to 1,5 Points in 4 rounds.Najditsch has 2,5 points
and is probably satisfied with his performance so far.

GM Michael Adams won this tournament last year. Yesterday he played
white against GM Ruslan Ponomariov. The players discussed the d3-variation
in the Berlin defence. In the middle game Adams played strong and achieved
a winning position. Shortly before the time control he destroyed his
position playing 36.Rxb4. 36.Qc3! had kept the winning position. The game
ended draw after 54 moves.Adams has 2 points while Ponomariov shares
6th Place with Kramnik. They both have -1 (1,5 points).

Italian GM Fabiano Caruana played white in a French game against
German grandmaster Georg Maier. Maier seemed well prepared and
blitzed out his moves while Caruana took more time.Meier`s position was
good very long, but beginning with 34.-gxf6? he defended incorrectly and
Caruana finished in nice style with 38.g6! With this victory Caruana has
3,5 points and is 1 point Ahead of Najditsch. He has a good chance to win
this tournament with 3 rounds to go.

GM David Baramidze has struggled in this tournament. Yesterday he
played a solid Catalan game against draw-expert GM Peter Leko. The
German had a small advantage most of the middle game, pushing towards
Leko`s c6-pawn. But the Hungarian defended accurately and was never
really in danger of losing.Going in to the rest day Leko has four draws.

Many people take a great interest in the Sparkassen Chess-Meeting.
The players are presented like American baskeballers entering the stage
applaused by the audience. Exchampion Vladimir Kramnik came in last
like Chicago Bulls king Michael Jordan used to in his prime days in the
United Center in Chicago.
That was it for now. The tournament continues on Friday and the games
can be followed live on the homepage or on ChessBomb. The round starts
3 p-m. (15.00 Norwegian time).
