Norway Chess 2014: Karjakin wins

World Champion Magnus Carlsen won the duel against his countryman
GM Simen Agdestein. Magnus ended the Norway Chess 2014 with 5,5
points. He scored the same points as last year. Magnus will certaintly
be disappointed. He destroyed a completely winning position against GM
Peter Svidler on Thursday. GM Sergey Karjakin won his last round encounter
against GM Fabiano Caruana and won the tournament with 6 points.
Congratulations to the sympathethic Russian grandmaster. GM Alexander
Grischuk snatched the 3rd place after beating his compatriot GM Vladimir
Kramnik. Kramnik yet again collapsed in the end of a tournament and with
4 points he is certaintly very disappointed. Kramnik showed big weaknesses
in his black games. Against his archrival GM Veselin Topalov he was too
optimistic and was crushed. His psyche is not the best and Kramnik has seen
his best years. He will never play a match for the World Championship again.
Topalov and Caruana both made 4,5 points. Caruana will be disappointed as
he was in the top halfways. GM Simen Agdestein made a fine tournament,
but can`t be 100 percent satisfied with 3,5 points. He collapsed in winning
position against Karjakin and Grischuk. It will certaintly be exciting to
follow Simen in the Olympic tournament in Tromsø. Before that time Simen will
have plenty of time to work with his new Coach GM Evgeny Romanov.
Simen will certaintly work much with tactics as in this phase he threw away
important victories.
