in Aserbajdsjan. He scored 8 points
in 9 rounds in the national championship.
GM Abasov and FM Bashiri followed
on the next places. In the womaen`s
section WGM Narmin Kazimova won
with 8 points in 9 rounds.The tournaments
were played in Baku from 15-23.March.

Bertil Svendsen (t.v.) – her i spill i Hønefoss GP høsten 2015 –
slo FM Philipp Lerch i siste runde av Grenke Chess Open i tyske
Karlsruhe og endte opp med 5,5 poeng av 9, et halvt poeng bak
GM Torbjørn R.Hansen som avsluttet med seier mot WGM Melanie
Lubbe. Vinner ble den tyske GM Matthias Blübaum som hadde best
kvalitet av seks spillere på 7,5 poeng.GM Vladimir Fedoseev og GM
Nikita Vitiugov tok de andre plassene på pallen. Den store forhånds-
favoritten, GM Li Chao tapte mot nevnte Fedoseev i sluttrunden
og nådde altså ikke opp denne gangen.
GM Sergey Karjakin (left) beat GM Fabiano Caruana in the final
round of the Candidate tournament in Moscow today. Caruana who
felt pushed to play aggressive, played the Richter Rauzer sicilian
variation. Caruana got a fairly decent position, but when he missed
the promising continuation with 33-Rxd1+ he drifted and Karjakin
seemed to be in control. In the 36rd move Caruana blundered with
36.-Re4?? and white killed him with 37.Rxd5! and some moves later
the game was over. Congratulation to Sergey who thereby won this
tournament with 8,5 points, a point more then Caruana and GM Vishy
Anand. Karjakin now has earned his right to play World Champion
Magnus Carlsen in a match for the throne. This match will be played
in New York in November over 12 games. Magnus will be the favourite,
I say he has 60 percent chance to defend his title. Magnus has 3-1
in decisive games against Karjakin, but it has been a while since
Magnus beat Karjakin now. Often Magnus has had promising positions
against Karjakin,but failed to finish the Russian off. It was also Karjakin
who beat Magnus and destroyed his tournament in the blitz World
Championship in Berlin last October. I think we will have a fine match
between two young players who have showed some fine chess the
last years.
This tournament marked a decisive end of the World
Champion chances for GM Levon Aronian, GM Peter Svidler, GM
Veselin Topalov and GM Vishy Anand. They will never be in contention
for a championship match in the future. GM Anish Giri would probably
have about 50 percent chances to beat Magnus in a World Championship
match, but he simply just played all these draws ending his title ambitions
this time. GM Hikaru Nakamura started poorly, recovered with two wins,
but never was in contention for the qualifier spot. Read also the Express

Steffen Hoffmann (links) aus Fortuna Leipzig hat eine neue und
sehr interessante Erzählung auf dem Homepage von Fortuna Leipzig
veröffentlicht. Die Erzählung heisst Botwinnik+Tolusch=Kasparov.
In dieser Erzählung kommentiert er zwei Kasparow-Karpow-Partien
aus dem VM-Kampf in 1985 in Moskau. Dazu kommentiert er die
Partie Tolusch-V.Wassilew aus Leningrad 1945. Viel Vergnügen!
Morgen Abend ist übrigens wieder Blitz Grand Prix in der Rotfuchsstrasse
(Karinas Treff).
Hjemmespilleren GM Tiger Hillarp Persson (t.h.) vant Påskturneringen
i Norrköping. Den svenske toppspilleren scoret 6,5 poeng av 8 og
hadde den beste kvaliteten av 7 spillere som avga 1,5 poeng.GM Hans
Tikkanen og IM Pontus Sjödahl fulgte på de nærmeste plassene.
Andreas G.Tryggestad fra Nordstrand var beste nordmann med 5 poeng
og 43.plass. Shemsi Rukovci og Svein Rishovd scoret 4,5 poeng
og ble henholdsvis nummer 60 og 61.
GM Viesturs Meijers (rechts) ist der Turniersieger bei dem Oster-Open
in Bad Sassendorf. Meijers machte 7,5 Punkte in den 8 Runden und
gewann mit 2 Punkten Vorsprung auf Nummer 2,Manuel Günnigmann
und Nummer 3 FM Nicolas Gerard.
IM Hannes Langrock (right) from SG Leipzig was the rating favourite
in the Easter Open in Hamburg, but too many draws made sure he
came in 4th place with 5 points in 7 rounds. Hannes finished the
tournament with a draw as white against the winner Dusan Nedic.
Sebastian Pallas from Löberitz was second after playing fine chess.
Sebastian scored 5,5 points, half a point behind the winner Nedic.
Jamshid Atri was third also with 5,5 points.
GM Vladimir Sergeev (rechts), hier im Spiel in Travemünde Open
2013, hat das 33.Äskulap-Turnier in Görlitz für sich entschieden.
Sergeev machte 5,5 Punkte in 7 Runden und hatte bessere Wertungs-
Punkte als IM Oleg Krivonosov und GM Gerald Hertneck auf den
Rängen.Die SG Leipzig-Spieler FM Thomas Schunk, FM Hendrik
Hoffmann und Manuel Pietzsch kassierten auch Geldpreise ein. Die
machten je 5 Punkte und wurde Nummer 9, 11 und 14.
Den amerikanske ratingfavoritten, GM Samuel L.Shankland, gikk
til topps i GM-gruppen i Tv2 Fagernes International. Shankland
beseiret IM Johan Salomon i siste runde og scoret 7 poeng på de
9 rundene.Vår egen IM Frode Urkedal (utnevnes til GM i april) tok
en sterk svartseier mot den gode latviske GM Arturs Neiksans og
tok 2.plassen med 6,5 poeng. Imponerende av Urkedal som også
tok et 4.GM-napp som i og for seg ikke spilte noen rolle da tittelen allerede
er trygt i boks.Den ukrainske GM Andrey Vovk tok 3,plass med best
kvalitet av de på 6 poeng.Her finner vi også vår egen IM Johan-Sebastian
Christiansen som imponerte stort med en overkjøring av GM Evgeny
Romanov med hvit i sluttrunden.Ratingrprestasjonen var på 2492.
I IM-gruppen gikk GM Marc Narciso Dublan til topps med 7 av 9
etter remis i finalen mot GM Aloyzas Kveinys. Litaueren ble nummer
to med 6,5 poeng på bedre kvalitet enn GM Stellan Brynell som avluttet
med remis mot FM Joachim B.Nilsen som dermed knep sitt første
IM-napp.Nilsen scoret 6 av 9. I det åpne NM ble det en overlegen seier
til Johannes L.Kvisla på 8,5 av 9.FM Ward Al-Tarbosh ble nummer 2 med
7,5 poeng. Christian Laverton sikret seg 3.plassen med 6 poeng.
